Week 11 SD-3.5 W
San Diego brought the money home against a hapless Raider team that found a way to lose in the 4th Qtr. One TD called back and a sure TD bomb dropped by the Faiders.
Thanksgiving games, aren't they by tradition impossible to pick the winning side? I think I've gone 2-0 maybe 4 times in 30 years. It has to do a great deal with horrible Detroit teams coming up big when they look like crap on paper. 10 is a lot o points to be getting specially when you have the better defense.
I'm staying away from the side though, I have no confidence in the Detroit offense. I took Detroit in week 10 as they faced a Jag team that was starting an inexperienced QB. Game went into OT and Jags won and covered.
One note I made to myself was that the Detroit offensive coach, S Lewis was horrible. Detroit was in the game only because of 2 punt returns for TDs. Coming into the game, Detroit had one of the worst running games in the league and as the game went along it became obvious that the reason was the play selection, too cute. Mr Lewis runs a West coast offense and likes to throw on first down. The Lion QB, Harrington does not like to complete 1st down passes a fact lost on Lewis and the Lions are constantly in second and long. On second down the Lions will run the ball and gain anywhere from 4 to 6 yards. On third down the Lions will throw usually an incompletion. That is the Lions offensive scheme in a nutshell. What happens when they run on first down? Lions will gain 4 to 7 yds. Lions then will pass on second and third usually incomplete. Its against Lewis's law to run two succesive running plays. When thay did it against the Jags it resulted in a first down 2 out of the 3 times. Needless to say the Lion offense sucks. They have 2 offensive TDs in the last 3 games.
The defense though has been coming on, they played two good games at Jacksonville and in Minny. Detroit is among the league leaders in QB sacks something that will come in handy vs Manning. In addition K. Jones is coming off his first 100 yd game. Hopefully Mr Lewis realizes that if the Lions are going to have a chance against Indy, they'll have to play keep away by running the ball.
On the other side of the field Indy's defense has been on a upswing the last two games and they are also in the top ten NFL at sacking QBs. Colts YDS passing against is misleading, as teams are so far behind they begin to throw on everydown. You all know about the Indy offense. Manning has always been prone to the INT in the endzone and maybe he'll come through with a couple.
Now I don't think that a defensive type game will break out but I do think that 54 points is too high. Detroit remains in playoff contention trailing St Lou by one game for the second wild card slot, The defense will show up, the home team will be rabid and the Lion offense will still suck. Will Indy's tiring 4 game in 18 day stretch will help slow down the offense?
UNDER 54 DET/INDY
P.S. I read Ricky Williams from Miami is going to be reinstated by the NFL. I have breaking news, I just smoked a bowl with Ricky and he's decided NOT to rejoin the league. We will be playing Playstation at Rickys house all winter long with Ron Artest. Come by. I threw some beer at Ron making fun of him, he got up to chase me and knocked himself out when he hit his head on the doorway. Homeys not aware of his own height. It was effing hilarious.
Happy Thanksgiving
